Mamata accuses BJP of plotting to replace Ambedkar’s Constitution with its own party manifesto

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP on Sunday of scheming to supplant B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution with its own party manifesto.

She alleged the BJP is weaponising democratic institutions and constitutional posts to pursue "anti-people" goals in its "One Nation, One Leader, One Party" drive.

Her remarks follow backlash against her government and Trinamool Congress over President Droupadi Murmu’s cancelled appearance at an International Santal Conclave in Darjeeling district.

"What we are witnessing today is unprecedented, deeply unfortunate, and a direct assault on the democratic foundations of this republic," Banerjee posted on social media. "BJP has systematically weaponised every democratic institution and every constitutional post to serve their own Jono-Birodhi ambitions."

She accused the BJP of misusing the "Vanish Commission"—her term for the Election Commission—to delete legitimate voters from Bengal’s lists.

"This is what they want. They want to replace Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution with their party's manifesto. I have not stood for this," she declared. "Our dharna at Dharmatala is our answer to every Bangla-Birodhi agenda that seeks to humiliate, intimidate, and persecute the people of this state."

"Bengal rose to break the shackles of colonial rule. Bengal will rise again to pave the way for BJP's inevitable downfall," she concluded.
