Maharashtra: Woman’s hair gets caught in ferris wheel, scalp torn

Maharashtra: A 25-year-old woman suffered severe injuries after her hair became trapped in the rotating bearing of a giant wheel at a fair in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, resulting in a large portion of her scalp being torn away.

The incident occurred on Friday at a one-day fair organised in connection with the traditional 'Tanha Pola' festival in Mahagaon taluka. The annual fair attracted a large number of women and children from nearby villages, who gathered to seek blessings at the Puneshwar Mahadev temple.

The injured woman was identified as Bali Maroti Talikote, a resident of Phulsawangi. She was riding the giant wheel when the accident occurred.

As the ride began moving at high speed, Talikote's hair became caught in the rotating bearing behind her seat. The wheel continued spinning, subjecting her to a sudden and forceful pull that tore away a significant portion of her scalp.

Her screams alerted other visitors at the fair, who were shocked to find her covered in blood. Panic spread through the crowd as people rushed to respond to the incident.

Police personnel deployed at the fair immediately intervened. Assistant Police Inspector Sunil Ambhure and Police Constable Suhas Kayte reached the spot and, with the assistance of local residents, managed to stop the rapidly spinning ride.

Talikote was then safely taken off the giant wheel and rushed to a hospital for treatment. The prompt intervention helped avert a potentially more serious tragedy.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety measures and standards followed for amusement rides operated at local fairs.
