Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress has been asked to vacate its temporary headquarters in East Kolkata after the owner of the rented multi storey building served notice to the party.
Montu Saha, proprietor of Modern Decorators, who owns the property in Topsia along the EM Bypass, told reporters he had asked the party to leave on security grounds following vandalism outside the building after the Assembly election results were declared. Saha said he informed Trinamool leaders verbally and that the party has agreed to vacate the premises within two months.
Saha denied any political motive behind his decision, saying: “Immediately after the results of the Assembly elections were announced on May 4, there was widespread vandalism outside that house. If there is any damage to the house, the loss will be mine. There is nothing else in this.”
The Trinamool has not issued an official response.
The building has served as the party’s operational hub since 2022 while the main Topsia office underwent redevelopment. Although initially rented for two years, the lease was extended for another two as renovation work continued. For the past four years the premises housed senior leaders’ offices and hosted key organisational meetings, press conferences and election strategy sessions. The temporary office was overseen by state president Subrata Bakshi and vice president Jay Prakash Majumdar.
