Kerala Assembly Elections 2026 trends: UDF takes lead with 37 wins, BJP gets two wins

The United Democratic Front (UDF) surged ahead in the Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, leading in 104 of the 140 constituencies as counting progressed on Monday, indicating a major setback for the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), which was ahead in 34 seats.

Latest trends showed the Congress-led UDF gaining significant ground across central Kerala, Malabar, and parts of south Kerala, while the LDF managed to retain pockets of influence in several traditional strongholds.

Among individual parties, as of 3.30 PM, the Indian National Congress (INC) won 24 seats and is leading in 40 others. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) secured victories in two seats and is leading in 20 constituencies. Kerala Congress (KEC) won two seats and is leading in five constituencies, while the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) won two seats and was leading in one constituency.

In the ruling alliance, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] won nine seats and is leading in 17 constituencies. The Communist Party of India (CPI) won three seats and is leading in five seats. The Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) secured one victory.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won in two constituencies. NDA candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar registered a notable victory in Nemam, marking a key breakthrough for the alliance. The first win came from Chathannoor, where B B Gopakumar got over 50,000 votes.

Several high-profile victories were recorded for the UDF.

Aryadan Shoukath of the Congress secured one of the biggest wins of the day from Nilambur with a margin of 54,851 votes. In Puthuppally, Chandy Oommen retained the constituency with a massive margin of 52,907 votes, while Uma Thomas won decisively in Thrikkakara by 50,211 votes. In Muvattupuzha, Dr Mathew Kuzhalnadan won by 42,829 votes. Actor Ramesh Pisharody also won in Palakkad with a margin of 12,522 votes.

Congress also registered victories through T.J. Vinod in Eranakulam, Tony Chammany in Vypen, and Ramesh Chennithala in Haripad. Other UDF winners included I.C. Balakrishnan in Sulthanbathery, Manoj Moothedan in Perumbavoor, Adv. Cyriac Thomas in Peerumade and C.R. Mahesh in Karunagappally.

The IUML opened its account with victories in Kasaragod and Koduvally. Kallatra Mahin won Kasaragod by 22,698 votes, while P.K. Firos secured Koduvally with a margin of 36,682 votes. C.K. Kasim also emerged victorious in Thiruvambadi.

The CPI(M), despite trailing overall, recorded important victories in several constituencies. P.A. Mohamed Riyas won from Beypore, while M. Vijin retained Kalliasseri. The party also secured wins in Shornur, Ottappalam, Malampuzha, Tarur, Nemmara, Alathur, Chelakkara, Wadakkanchery, and Pudukkad.

For the CPI, Geethagopi won from Nattika, K.K. Valsaraj retained Kaipamangalam, and C. Ajayaprasad emerged victorious in Punalur.

Counting is still underway in several constituencies. But, UDF appears ready for a return to power after the LDF’s consecutive terms in office.
