New Delhi: In the matter of Rs 122 crore missing from New India Co-operative Bank, to which Bollywood actress Preity Zinta got linked over claims of an 18 crore loan by her from the bank getting waivered with BJP support, the Kerala Congress-Zinta social media exchange continued.
The Reserve Bank of India dissolved the New India’s board on February 15 over financial irregularities, and a report claimed that the bank had written off loans by Preity Zinta as well as others. Investigators also found that Rs 122 crore went missing from the bank.
Following this, the Kerala Congress wrote on X that "depositors are on the streets for their money" after the bank was dissolved.
“She gave her social media accounts to BJP and got 18 Cr written off, but the bank collapsed last week. Depositors are on the streets for their money,” Kerala Congress had written on X on Monday.
When the actor responded that the Congress claim was "vile gossip" and "clickbait". She claimed that she had fully paid the loan back a decade ago.
“No, I operate my social media accounts myself, and shame on you for promoting FAKE NEWS ! No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. I’m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news & indulging in vile gossip & click baits using my name & images. For the record, a loan was taken and FULLY PAID BACK - over 10 years ago. Hope this clarifies and helps so there are no misunderstandings in the future,” she wrote.
However, on Tuesday, the party demanded proof for her claim that the news reports pointing fingers at her were false.
"We are standing with the depositors who lost their savings," the party's X post mentioned.
Good to know you're managing your own account, unlike other celebs who have handed theirs over to the notorious IT cell.
