New Delhi: More but brief confusion surfaced in Jagangirpuri on Monday on more demolitions after a bulldozer was spotted in the Azad Chowk area, IANS reported, citing an official.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Usha Rangnani informed that a police vehicle had spotted the JCB around 12:30 in the noon at Azad Chowk's Shah Alam Bandh road of Jahangirpuri. The JCB was removing the boundary grill around the statue of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad.
People gathered around the scene after noticing the same and thinking that the statue itself was going to be removed.
"Immediately, the work of removing the grill was stopped. On enquiry, it was found that work was started to install a high mast National Flag by Executive Engineer, SWR-1, PWD on the directions of local AAP MLA Pawan Sharma," DCP Rangnani said. She also added that no damage was done to the statue.
She further said that given the situation in Jahangirpuri and the sensitivity involved, the work was ordered to stop. The area MLA has been requested to resume the work once the situation in the area calms down and inform Delhi Police before resumption.
"The beat staff have been directed to keep a watch on this," she said.
