Integration of CBI, NIA, NCB data with CCTNS a must: Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah proposed on Friday the integration of data of central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS). CCTNS connects all police stations in the country, The Indian Express reported

Addressing a gathering of police officers at the 37th Foundation Day of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Shah said that there are 16,390 police stations connected on CCTNS in the country but not the three Central probe agencies. All agencies must join the CCTNS as soon as possible and complete the data to cent per cent, he said.

Further, Shah said that with an expenditure of around Rs 3,500 crore, the Centre had set the target of the second phase of the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) by the year 2026.

Shah said that after it is done, ICJS should be made increasingly valuable by using Artificial Intelligence, BlockChain, analytical tools and fingerprint system. So far, one crore fingerprints have been registered, and if this data is available for police, they need not pursue criminals after getting their fingerprints. Their addresses will be available in the data bank, he said.
