Infosys says no employee detained by US authorities, CEO clarifies viral claims

Infosys on Wednesday clarified that none of its employees were apprehended by US authorities, after a social media post claimed that an employee had been detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and deported to India.

Addressing the issue during the company’s third-quarter earnings press briefing, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said an employee had been denied entry into the United States at the port of entry a few months ago and was sent back to India, but was not apprehended or arrested.

“No Infosys employee has been apprehended by any US authority. A few months ago, one of our employees was denied entry into the US and was sent back to India,” Parekh said.

The clarification followed a viral post dated January 13, which alleged that an Infosys employee from Mysuru was arrested at his home in the US, given the choice of jail or deportation, and escorted by ICE officials to a flight back to India. Infosys denied these claims.

The issue comes amid heightened scrutiny of Infosys’ use of H-1B visas.

In October 2025, the company disclosed that the US Department of Justice had launched an investigation into how it classified certain H-1B visa holders working for a client. Infosys said at the time that it was cooperating with the investigation and conducting its own internal inquiry, while noting it could not predict the outcome.

Parekh reiterated that there has been no change in the company’s approach to H-1B visas. He said most Infosys employees in the US do not require immigration support and that the company continues to manage delivery through a mix of onshore and offshore work. He added that the firm is continuing with its existing visa processes and will review future requirements as needed.
