The Income Tax department on Saturday tweeted that its software provider Infosys has flagged some "irregular traffic on the portal". The IT firm is taking proactive measures to deal with the same.
Income Tax India tweeted that it has been noticed that taxpayers are facing issues in accessing the ITD e-filing portal. The department further expressed regret for the inconvenience. Infosys was paid Rs 164.5 crore to build the new income tax e-filing portal.
The portal was launched on June 7, 2021, a year after Infosys received the contract for the same, and initially faced several technical difficulties. Taxpayers and professionals reported glitches. On the first anniversary of the portal last month, many users complained that they were unable to log into the portal. Some people also complained about the malfunctioning of the search functionality.
After several users reported bugs and glitches since the beginning, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the deadlines for filing tax returns in order to re-develop the website. The tech giant had solved earlier issues.
According to the CBDT, the net collections on the portal are now at Rs. 3,39,225 crore as opposed to Rs. 2,33,651 crore during the same period last year. It shows a 45% increase.
