India's COVID count drops 3 lakh mark, first time in 25 days

New Delhi: India witnessed a slight improvement in the daily Covid reports as the cases dropped below the 3 lakh mark for the first time since April 21 on Monday.

2.81 lakh fresh infections were reported in the last 24 hours taking the total infections to 24,965,463, according to data from the health ministry.

However, India sees a grim record of  4,106 deaths in the same period taking the total fatalities to 274,390.

Meanwhile, Bharat Biotech on Sunday claimed their 'Covaxin' to be effective against coronavirus strains found in India and the UK citing a study published in a medical journal.

Lockdown in the National Capital has been extended by another week till May 24, said Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal on Sunday.

The Delhi High Court has asked the police on Monday to clarify as to how BJP MP Gautam Gambhir or Congress leader Srinivas got Covid-19 medicine in large quantities when there are reports of shortages in supply.

"Just because some political leader is involved, is no reason to not investigate. How many people have died because of a lack of medicine? Just because they were hoarded by these people," the High Court asked.
