New Delhi: India on Thursday strongly condemned the United States Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's visit to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, IANS reported.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a briefing, a day after Ilhan's visit, that New Delhi has taken note of her trip to the part of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir occupied by Pakistan illegally.
"If such a politician wishes to practice her narrow-minded politics at home, that may be her business. But violating our territorial integrity and sovereignty in its pursuit makes it ours. This visit is condemnable," Bagchi said.
The representative US House of Representatives Ilhan Omar is on a five day trip to Pakistan. She had met a section of Pakistani political leaders, aiming to know their cultural, social, political, and economic dynamics.
IANS reports. She has met President Arif Alvi and new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and held discussions on various issues of bilateral, regional and global importance.
The Pak President and PM explained to her about the domestic affairs and highlighted the issues of J&K, and suggested a peaceful resolution to the dispute. Ilhan also met former PM Imran Khan.
Earlier this month, Imran Khan was removed from the office of the Prime Minister, who was elected to the chair in 2018 through a no-confidence movement. Imran became the first PM in the history of Pakistan to be ousted from power through such a move, while Shehbaz Sharif became the 23rd PM of the Islamic Republic. During the political unrest, numerous opposition parties joined hands on the no-confidence action and ousted Imran from power.
