After the recent INDIA bloc meeting, Mallikarjun Kharge made assurances of taking decisive actions against what he termed as "fascist rule" by the BJP government.
Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration allegedly undermining the people's will, Kharge stated that for now, the INDIA bloc would maintain its position in the opposition, but with a commitment to resist what they perceive as authoritarian governance.
Kharge hinted at potential strategies to counter BJP's dominance, which initially included attempts to woo Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party leader Chandrababu Naidu. However, hopes for a realignment were dashed as both leaders pledged their support to the NDA, aligning themselves with the BJP.
Previously, there were speculations of the INDIA bloc reaching out to Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu, considering their political histories marked by shifts in alliances.
Although Uddhav Thackeray, an ally of the INDIA bloc, hinted at this possibility, Kharge remained cautious, indicating consultations with allies before any decisions were made.
During a strategy session at his residence, Kharge extended an open invitation to parties sharing the INDIA alliance's core values, emphasizing their commitment to the principles enshrined in the Constitution's Preamble. The opposition, buoyed by recent electoral gains, has demanded Prime Minister Modi's resignation, citing a purportedly clear message from the people.
Kharge, accompanied by Sonia Gandhi, asserted that despite BJP's substantial victory, the electoral outcome signified a political and moral setback for Modi, accusing him of attempting to undermine public will.
BJP secured 240 seats and 293 with its allies, including contributions from Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu. The INDIA bloc, comprising 232 seats, primarily led by the Congress, stands in opposition.
