Cockroach Janta Party backs INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally against SIR

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party has thrown its weight behind the INDIA bloc’s November 1 demonstration in Delhi, becoming the latest group to attack the Election Commission over its Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls.

The party said it would participate in the Opposition’s rally at Ramlila Maidan and called for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whom it accused of damaging public confidence in the electoral process.

Party founder Abhijeet Dipke announced the support on X, writing: “Gyanu must go! The Cockroach Janta Party extends its support to the INDIA Bloc’s November 1 rally. Nation above all!”

In its statement, the CJP framed the SIR exercise as a threat to democratic participation. It argued that elections exist to allow citizens to decide who governs them, and alleged that the revision process risked reversing that relationship by enabling the exclusion of legitimate voters.

The party said the Election Commission should be expanding access to the ballot rather than generating uncertainty among voters. It claimed that the SIR had created widespread apprehension that eligible citizens could be struck off electoral rolls without adequate safeguards.

Drawing on constitutional history, the CJP said India’s founders had built the electoral system around universal adult franchise. It cited Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s role in ensuring that voting rights were not restricted by caste, religion, gender, education or wealth.

The statement said the country’s first government and Constitution-makers had sought to widen democratic participation at a time when large sections of the population had never voted. It contrasted that approach with what it described as present-day efforts to make voter-list revisions more exclusionary.

The party said protecting every eligible voter’s right to cast a ballot was a constitutional responsibility, and pledged support to organisations campaigning for electoral transparency and fairness.

The CJP’s statement concluded with the slogans “Jai Bhim” and “Jai Hind.”
