In response to NEET issue, Tamil Nadu LS members walk out

On Thursday, Tamil Nadu legislators walked out of the Lok Sabha in protest against Governor R N Ravi's decision to return the NEET Exemption Bill and demanded his immediate recall.

T R Baalu, DMK leader, expressed shock over the decision of the governor to return the bill to the assembly speaker instead of forwarding it to the President.

In the Well of the House, members of Tamil Nadu's DMK, the Congress, and the Left parties raised slogans against the governor.

"This governor should be withdrawn forthwith. This governor should be recalled," Baalu said.

He argued that the NEET Exemption Bill was passed unanimously by the Tamil Nadu assembly and that the governor's actions were against the will of the people.

According to Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, the governor was within his rights to return the bill and at the same time noted that rules do not permit discussion of the governor's conduct in the House.

Tamil Nadu members left the House after not being satisfied with the minister's response, Baalu added.

Congress member Manickam Tagore stated that the governor had stalled the NEET Exemption Bill for five months as he participated in the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address.
