Hyderabad: A 28-year-old man, Laxmi Narayana Vinjam, lost his life while undergoing a 'smile designing' procedure at the FMS International Dental Clinic in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills on February 16.
The untimely demise occurred just weeks before his scheduled wedding.
The victim's father, Ramulu Vinjam, alleged that his son succumbed to an overdose of anaesthesia during the smile-enhancement surgery.
Narrating the sequence of events, Vinjam mentioned that the clinic staff contacted him after Laxmi Narayana fainted during the procedure, prompting them to rush him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Expressing shock, Vinjam revealed that his son had not informed them about the surgery, emphasising the responsibility of the clinic staff in the tragic incident.
K Venkateshwar Reddy, the Station House Officer at Jubilee Hills, provided details of the timeline, stating that Laxmi Narayana arrived at the clinic around 2:30 pm on February 16. The surgery commenced at approximately 4:30 pm and continued for nearly two hours, with the family being informed around 7 pm. Subsequently, he was taken to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills, where he was declared dead.
A case of negligence has been filed against the clinic following a complaint from the victim's family, with officials investigating hospital records and security camera footage. Laxmi Narayana, who recently got engaged, was set to be married next month.
FMS International Dental Clinic, which claims to be one of the most awarded dental clinics in India since 2017 with over 55 awards, now faces scrutiny in the wake of this unfortunate incident. The authorities have sent the deceased's body for autopsy as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy continue.
