Chandigarh: Congress lawmaker for Faridabad, Neeraj Sharma staged a protest on Tuesday with no known parallel in politics.
He chose to wear cloth and dhoti in lieu of shoes and stitched clothes protesting against corruption.
The lawmaker was seeking to punish guilty in the alleged corruption cases from 2014 to December 2021 in Faridabad Municipal Corporation.
The Indian Express reported the lawmaker as declaring that he would put on regular clothes and shoes only after at least one guilty was punished in the cases.
The protest was announced on Tuesday during the last day of Budget Session of Haryana Assembly.
As the House was watching, the lawmaker declared he was discarding clothes and shoes and then took off the shoes in the Assembly itself.
Afterwards he went out of the House only to return later wearing a white cloth and a "dhoti," demanding action against officials involved in the corruption.
Responding to the protest, the minister for the state Urban Local Bodies Dr. Kamal Gupta assured him that no guilty in the case would be spared.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also came out assuring the lawmaker that no accused in the corruption cases would be let off.
The CM however was not impressed with the lawmaker's novel protest of discarding shoes and regular clothes.
