Gujarat results show how AAP and Owaisi's party ate into Congress votes

Ahmedabad: The BJP is hovering above 150 seats in Gujarat as the counting is progressing to a finish, with its major rivals struggling to put up a show.

The takeaways from the results suggest that Muslim dominated constituencies played its part in the BJP's record victory, according to NDTV.

However it is played out at the cost of the Congress despite the BJP did not field a single Muslim.

Marking an increase in seats, the BJP led in 12 of the 17 constituencies with high Muslim population.

Interestingly, most of these had been historically supporting the Congress sending the party candidates to the Assembly.

One notable example is Dariapur, a Muslim-dominated seat held for ten years by the Congress, where the BJP Candidate Kausik Jain won.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) entered the poll campaign with high voltage stump speeches and claims.

The party has made only an insignificant presence considering the energy it pumped into the campaign.

The flipside of its effort is that it has benefited the BJP greatly, according to reports. AAP and Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM played their part in splitting the traditional votes of the Congress.

Towards the end of the campaign, AAP claimed that the Congress would disappear from the picture.

However, the Congress tried to elbow through the numbers gained by the BJP and the votes that AAP and AIMIM partook.

In areas such as Jamalpur-Khadia and Vadgam, AIMIM has 13 candidates ate into Congress votes, emaciating the grand old party.
