Government employee gunned down in Jammu and Kashmir

In a targeted attack, a government employee was fatally shot by unidentified assailants this evening in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mohammad Razaq, aged 40 and employed with the social welfare department, was attacked shortly after leaving a mosque in the Shadra Sharief area. He succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at a hospital.

Following the incident, security forces swiftly mobilized to the area, initiating an extensive cordon and search operation to locate the perpetrators.

This incident closely follows two recent targeted killings in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, a migrant worker from Bihar was shot dead in Anantnag district. Additionally, a resident of Dehradun was targeted by terrorists in the Herpora area of south Kashmir.

Although there has been a decline in such attacks this year due to intensified anti-terrorism measures, this latest incident occurs as election campaigning gains momentum in Anantnag.

The region is scheduled for Lok Sabha elections on May 7.
