The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a fresh set of notices to several food business operators over misleading claims, branding and labelling practices, as part of its ongoing regulatory crackdown on packaged food products.
According to the regulator, the action follows consumer complaints, hygiene lapses, and concerns over product claims across categories including dairy, beverages, nutraceuticals, snacks, and packaged foods.
Among the products flagged was Marico's Saffola Total Heart Pro-Multi Source Cooking Oil. FSSAI said the use of terms such as "Heart Pro" and related imagery could create an impression of heart-health benefits beyond what is permitted under existing regulations. The regulator also sought scientific substantiation for claims including "Good Fats Balance" and "Losorb for less oil absorption".
The regulator also issued notices regarding Ferrero India's Kinder Joy, where the "Rich in Milk Solids" claim came under scrutiny, and Medizen Labs' AS-IT-IS Atom PWR Whey XL, over claims such as "Pure & Healthy", "100% Authentic", "Easy Digest", "Lean Muscle Gains" and "Rapid Recovery".
Other products cited include Pluckk Mango Fruit Juice, where the "No Added Sugar" claim was questioned despite the product containing 51% mango pulp and 49% sugarcane juice; Natural Paneer, where the use of the term "Natural" was flagged; Gaur Healthy Food's Silken Tofu for claims including "100% Veg", "Rich in vitamins" and references to anti-cancer properties; and MasterChow noodles for "100% Natural", "Freshly Made" and "Organic flour" claims.
FSSAI also raised concerns over claims made by Incipro Gold Powder Vanilla, Korean Ginseng supplements, Orville Mountain Bawarchi Buransh Squash, Nexa Industries' Alkaline Nutrient Water and Raw Pressery's Alphonso Mango Fruit Drink.
In separate consumer complaint cases, the regulator issued a notice to Param Dairy Ltd after allegations of fungal contamination in dahi and rabri supplied through IRCTC catering services. Bikanervala also received a notice following allegations that a staff member was consuming food inside a service or kitchen area during operational hours.
FSSAI has directed the concerned food business operators to take corrective measures.
