Four arrested for attacking Muslim youth who talked with Hindu girl

Mangaluru: The Karnataka Police arrested four individuals on Wednesday in connection with the attack on a Muslim youth who was talking to a Hindu girl on a bus in Ujire, located near Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district. The incident occurred on Tuesday.

A 22-year-old Muslim man named Mohammad Zahir was reportedly assaulted by four individuals - Nithesh, Sachin, Dinesh, and Avinash.

According to the police, Zahir was travelling on a bus when he saw his friend, a Hindu girl, and sat next to her to chat.

The girl got off the bus in Belthangady, and other passengers on the bus who noticed Zahir talking to a Hindu girl informed a group of people waiting at the next bus stop in Ujire.

When Zahir got off the bus, the accused persons dragged him out, interrogated him, and physically assaulted him. Zahir was eventually admitted to a hospital where he gave his statement.

SDPI leaders also visited him in the hospital and offered their support. The police claim that it was a minor altercation between Zahir and a group of youths, and investigations are ongoing.
