FIR against priest for derogatory remarks against Gandhi, praising Godse

Chhattisgarh: Chhattisgarh police have registered an FIR against a Hindu religious priest for making derogatory comments against Mahatma Gandhi while praising his killer Nathuram Nathuram Godse at the two-day 'Dharam Sansad' held in Raipur this weekend.

Around 20 religious priests, representing different sects of the Sanatana Dharma from across the country, were reported to have participated in the event where some had made provocative speeches urging the 'Sanatani Hindus' to arm themselves to establish a Hindu Rashtra.

The FIR was filed against 'Sant' Kalicharan from Maharashtra under IPC sections 505(2) and 294, for offensive remarks against Gandhi. He was also reported to have blamed minorities to control the politics and administration of various countries.

Mahant Ram Sundar Das, the convenor of the Sansad, expressed his disapproval for the statement made by 'Sant' Kalicharan and distanced from the event, stating it was not fruitful.

The event, organised by NGO Neelkanth Seva Samiti and the Doodhadhari Math, was attended by Congress leader Pramod Dubey and BJP leaders Brijmohan Agrawal and Vishnu Deo Sai. Swamy Prabhodanand Giri, who had earlier made statements at the controversial 'Dharam Sansad' in Haridwar, also attended the event.
