Bengaluru: An eighth-grade girl died by suicide in Bengaluru's Anekal after allegedly being penalised for failing to complete her homework, with a note recovered from the scene blaming the school's disciplinary action for her decision.
Police said the student stated in her suicide note that a teacher had imposed a fine of Rs 20 for not completing her homework and had allegedly threatened to issue her a Transfer Certificate (TC) and expel her from the school. The note reportedly described the humiliation and mental distress caused by the incident as the reason behind her death.
The girl's family alleged that she had been subjected to mental harassment by teachers and demanded strict action against those responsible. Her mother said the child appeared to have faced severe harassment at school but had never shared her experiences with the family. She added that her daughter had once been unable to attend school, but the family remained unaware of what she had allegedly been going through.
Suryanagar Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. Authorities have also begun probing the allegations made against the teachers in connection with the incident.
