New Delhi: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) expressed condolences for the death of a 21-year-old farmer in a clash between security forces and protesters at the Punjab-Haryana border.
The farmers' organisation blamed the government for the crisis, asserting its responsibility for the casualty.
The SKM announced a meeting of its National Coordination Committee and General Body on February 22 to deliberate on the situation and plan "decisive action to advance the struggle."
In a statement, the SKM strongly protested the "brutal police repression and murder" of farmer Shubkaran Singh during the clash at the Haryana-Punjab border. The SKM condemned the incident, highlighting around fifteen serious injuries during the police action.
The farmers' body criticised the government, emphasising that the prime minister and the executive, failing to implement the December 9, 2021, agreement with SKM, are solely responsible for the crisis and casualties. Concerned about the situation at the Punjab border, the SKM called for the meeting to discuss and plan decisive actions in response to the unfolding events.
The SKM, which led the previous protests against the now-repealed farm laws, expressed outrage at the brutality of the regime. The All India Kisan Sabha, part of the SKM, also condoled the farmer's death, denouncing the Haryana government's actions as "barbaric violence" and calling for nationwide protests.
The tragic incident has reignited concerns and protests, with farmers' unions gearing up for discussions to formulate their response to the government's handling of the ongoing agrarian issues.
