Surat: Authorities in Gujarat have shut down a hospital the day after its inauguration after discovering that the full-fledged facility was set up by a group of fake doctors.
The gang named administrative and police officials as guests at the inauguration without having informed them.
The police reportedly discovered that at least two of the five founders have fake degrees, giving rise to questions about the degrees of others in the gang with police initiating a probe.
Janseva Multispecialty hospital in Surat's Pandesara area was inaugurated on Sunday.
Senior police officer Vijay Singh Gurjar said one of the founders identified as BR Shukla who was introduced in the pamphlet of the event as doctor with an Ayurvedic medicine degree faces a case ‘under the Gujarat Medical Practitioners' Act and is a fake doctor’.
Another of the gang RK Dubey, claiming to hold a degree in electro-homeopathy, has a case against him under the Medical Practitioners' Act.
‘These two hold fake degrees. Another co-founder, GP Mishra, faces three cases under the Prohibition Act. His degree is yet to be verified. We are verifying the degrees of the other two names on the invite too,’ Gurjar was quoted as saying.
The gang named in the pamphlet for inauguration top officials including Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal, Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut and Joint Police Commissioner Raghavendra Vatsa.
However, the officials said they were unaware of it and none of them turned up for the event and police have sealed the premises of the hospital.
‘The degrees of the other co-founders are being verified. Based on the findings, further action will be taken,’ the police officer was quoted as saying.
