New Delhi: In a significant political shift ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, former BJP MLA Brahm Singh Tanwar joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday, dealing a blow to the BJP. Tanwar, who has represented the Chhatarpur and Mehrauli constituencies for three terms, was welcomed into the AAP fold by the party’s National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal.
The induction comes shortly after AAP's own MLA from Chhatarpur, Kartar Singh Tanwar, switched to the BJP, marking a notable exchange of key figures between the two rival parties.
At a press conference held at AAP’s headquarters, Kejriwal introduced Tanwar, recognizing his five decades of service in Delhi’s political landscape.
“Brahm Singh Tanwar has long been a respected figure in Delhi's politics,” Kejriwal stated. “His commitment to the people of Chhatarpur and Mehrauli, whether in government or in opposition, is widely known.”
Tanwar, explaining his departure from the BJP, expressed admiration for Kejriwal's leadership and said his decision was rooted in a desire to work toward his community’s betterment without internal conflicts.
“I felt it was time for a change when I realized my goals couldn’t be achieved in the BJP,” he shared, adding that his focus remains on serving his region.
Without naming specific colleagues, Tanwar cited dissatisfaction with some BJP members, remarking, “Rather than engage in disputes, I chose to take a different path.”He affirmed his dedication to the AAP’s mission and announced his intention to contest in the upcoming elections, pledging his commitment to the residents of Chhatarpur.
With Tanwar’s experience and influence, AAP is likely to strengthen its appeal in South Delhi as both parties gear up for a competitive election season.
