New Delhi: The Government of India has, for the first time, officially acknowledged military casualties suffered during Operation Sindoor by releasing the names of six armed forces personnel killed in action during the cross-border operation against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in May 2025, Siasat reported.
The names have been added to the Roll of Honour on the National War Memorial website and engraved on Wall 3D of the National War Memorial in New Delhi under the 2025 section, marking the first formal confirmation of Indian military losses during the operation.
The personnel honoured are Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, who was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh and Sergeant Surendra Kumar, a recipient of the Vayu Medal. The list includes personnel from both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, reflecting the joint nature of the operation.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, most of them tourists. Indian forces carried out precision strikes on nine locations linked to terror groups operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including infrastructure reportedly associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Hostilities ended on May 10 after talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan.
The inclusion of the six names at the National War Memorial formally records their sacrifice and ensures that the casualties of Operation Sindoor become part of the country's official military history.
