New Delhi: Friday night witnessed communal violence in Soor Sagar in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, injuring two police personnel. A shop was set on fire, and two vehicles were damaged in the violent incidents, which was triggered by the construction of gates near an Eidgah, The Times of India reported.
Police informed that tensions escalated on Friday night, and someone pelted stones at police troops, resulting in injuries to two of them. A shop and tractor were set on fire, while a jeep was vandalised, Jodhpur West DCP Rajesh Kumar Yadav said.
It is learned that senior members from both communities attempted a mediation for peace but were disrupted by stone pelting.
The incidents started over the construction of a gate at the backside of an Eidgah near Rajaram Circle after the locals opposed the construction.
After the conflict broke out, police resorted to batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd, where tensions were between the two communities. The tensions still remain while authorities continue to maintain calm and order. Police are working towards nabbing suspects. Police fired 4-5 rounds of tear gas shells.
After deploying heavy police troops and the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary forces on Saturday morning, the situation has been brought under control, but tensions still persist in the area, TOI reports.
The conflict was between two communities, and both filed complaints with the police, and based on both, two FIRs were registered. After taking individuals from both sides into custody, police are combing the locality to detain more suspects.
