Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, extending the house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from July 24 to August 3.
The poll panel also extended the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations to August 3.
Under the revised schedule, the draft electoral rolls will now be published on August 10, while the period for filing claims and objections will run from August 10 to September 9.
The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will continue from August 10 to October 10, and the final electoral rolls will be published on October 12.
Under the earlier schedule announced in May, the house-to-house enumeration by BLOs was to be conducted from June 25 to July 24, with the draft electoral roll scheduled for publication on July 31 and the final rolls on October 1.
According to the Election Commission's status report released on Wednesday, BLOs have achieved 100 per cent distribution of enumeration forms across the state.
The Chief Electoral Officer said enumeration forms had been distributed to all 3,38,26,004 registered voters, while 54.84 per cent of the forms have already been digitised.
Meanwhile, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi welcomed the Election Commission's decision to extend the deadline for submitting enumeration forms to BLOs by 10 days.
He expressed hope that the Telangana government would issue the Family Register Certificate or Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) to eligible electors, saying the move would benefit poor people in the state.
Earlier, while addressing a programme to distribute books and school kits to students, Owaisi had urged voters who had received enumeration forms to submit the completed forms to BLOs at the earliest instead of waiting until the deadline.
