Delhi Uttam Nagar murder case: Bulldozer action against accused’s house; 7 held

New Delhi: Authorities have initiated bulldozer action against the property of the main accused in the Uttam Nagar murder case in Delhi, where a 26-year-old man was killed following a dispute during Holi celebrations.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) carried out the demolition drive against the house of the main accused, identified as Nizamuddin, as the investigation into the violent clash continues.

The incident occurred on the night of March 4 in the JJ Colony area of Uttam Nagar. According to police, the dispute began when an 11-year-old girl playing Holi from the terrace threw a balloon filled with coloured water, which accidentally burst and splashed on a woman standing nearby.

Although the girl’s family immediately apologised, the situation escalated after an argument broke out. Investigators said the woman later called her relatives to the spot, leading to a confrontation between members of the two families, who belong to different communities.

During the clash, eight people were injured, including three from one side and five from the other. Most of the injured were treated and discharged from the hospital the same day.

Tarun Kumar, 26, who was pursuing courses in digital marketing and interior designing, had returned home after celebrating Holi with friends and was not initially involved in the dispute. However, as he reached the lane near his house, he was allegedly surrounded by the attackers.

Police said he was brutally assaulted with iron rods, sticks, bricks and stones, suffering severe head injuries. Tarun was rushed to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

Following the incident, police registered a case and launched an investigation. So far, seven people, including a minor, have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Authorities have also added provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act to the case during the course of the investigation.

Meanwhile, civic authorities initiated demolition action against the property of the main accused, Nizamuddin, in Uttam Nagar. Officials said the action was taken by the MCD as part of enforcement proceedings.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
