Delhi sees fresh protests against Gyanesh Kumar; police detain many

New Delhi: Delhi Police detained students affiliated with the KYS during a fresh protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, following a farmers’ demonstration in the capital on Friday.

The students gathered after police had cleared protesters who participated in an earlier demonstration led by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha. The KYS activists resumed their agitation, vowing to continue until Kumar stepped down. Police forcibly detained and removed the demonstrators.

The latest protest follows a series of demonstrations against Kumar, including an earlier agitation at Jantar Mantar that is now under investigation by the Delhi Police Crime Branch.

Several students, farmers and civil rights activists had also participated in a protest held at Connaught Place earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranga have given a written undertaking to the court that they would not engage in activities that disturb public order. They also agreed not to call for protests at Jantar Mantar until a formal legal notification is issued.

The leaders further assured the court that any future demonstrations organised by them would remain strictly within the constitutional framework.
