New Delhi: Nine prominent schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails Monday morning, prompting evacuations and searches by police, fire teams, and bomb squads, the latest in a wave of hoaxes straining emergency services and alarming parents.
Threats arrived between 8:30 am and 9:00 am to: Loreto Convent (Delhi Cantonment), Venkateshwar Global School (Rohini), Cambridge School (Srinivaspuri and New Friends Colony), The Indian School (Sadiq Nagar), CM Shri School (Rohini), DTEA School (INA), Bal Bharti School (Rohini), and Manav Sthali School (New Rajinder Nagar).
The email, seen by India Today and signed 'Khalistan National Army', read: "Delhi will become Khalistan. In memory of Afzal Guru. There will be an explosion at 1:11 pm." It also threatened a Parliament blast on February 13 at 1:11 pm, adding: "Punjab is Khalistan."
Delhi Police swiftly evacuated students and staff; thorough searches continue.
This follows similar hoaxes: five schools targeted January 29 (including Loreto Convent, Don Bosco in Chittaranjan Park, Carmel Convent in Anand Niketan and Dwarka), all cleared as false. The Dwarka court complex got a threat January 28, also a hoax.
Police are probing the serial threats, vowing strict action against perpetrators.
