Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report over the circulation of an unpublished book authored by former Army chief General MM Naravane.
The case relates to reports that a pre-print copy of the book titled ‘Four Stars of Destiny’ is being shared and promoted online without mandatory clearance from competent authorities.
Police said they took cognisance of information circulating on social media platforms and news forums claiming that copies of the book were available publicly. During preliminary verification, officials found that a PDF copy of a typeset manuscript bearing the same title was accessible on certain websites. The document appears to have been prepared by Penguin Random House India Pvt. Ltd., though its authenticity is yet to be confirmed.
Investigators also noted that some online marketing and retail platforms had displayed the book’s cover in a manner suggesting it was already available for purchase.
Authorities said the issue is being treated seriously as it may involve unauthorised dissemination of material linked to a publication that is still pending approval.
Possible copyright violations and illegal distribution are among the aspects being examined.
Given the sensitivity of the matter, the investigation has been handed over to the Special Cell of Delhi Police. Teams will trace the origin of the alleged leak, identify those responsible for uploading or circulating the manuscript, and determine how it reached public platforms before clearance.
The development comes days after a political controversy erupted when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen with a purported copy of the book in the Parliament complex. He was later disallowed from quoting material linked to the unpublished memoir, leading to disruptions in the Lok Sabha and the suspension of eight MPs during the ongoing Budget session.
