New Delhi: Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is seeking bail today before Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. He is currently in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate over the alleged irregularities in the now-withdrawn liquor policy.
In his bail petition, the AAP leader said that no fruitful purpose would be served to keep him in custody because all recoveries have already been made. He added that he has joined the investigation as and when called for by the CBI. He pointed out that other accused in the case have already been granted bail, reported NDTV.
Sisodia also said he holds the important constitutional post of Deputy CM of Delhi and has deep roots in the society. Earlier the court had directed the CBI that the interrogation period should be conducted in a place with CCTV coverage in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court. The footage is also asked to be preserved by the CBI.
He was on Monday produced before the court. The ED was granted custody till March 22 but yesterday, Special judge M K Nagpal extended judicial custody for 14 more days.
The trial court also observed that Sisodia joined the investigation on two earlier occasions but failed to provide satisfactory answers to most of the questions. He did not legitimately explain the incriminating evidence that has allegedly surfaced against him during the probe.
The 51-year-old is accused of money laundering in connection with alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). The investigation is being carried out by the ED and the CBI.
