New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to Zee News channel to file an affidavit to disclose the source from where the alleged confessional statement by Asif Iqbal Tanha was received.
24 year old Asif Iqbal Tanha, student of Jamia Millia Islamia, was arrested on May 19 by Delhi Police alleging links in riots in North-East Delhi in February.
The police had said that he was a close associate of Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Meeran Haider and Safoora Zargar who had been the key members of anti-CAA protests.
The Delhi Police informed the court that none of the police personnel involved in the investigation leaked out any details of the investigation. It also said the court that the department also was aggrieved by the alleged confessional statement being made public. A vigilance inquiry had been instituted in the matter, said the police.
The Court has asked Zee News to file the affidavit before October 19, when the case will be heard next.
