New Delhi: The Delhi assembly's panel on peace and harmony has summoned actor Kangana Ranaut over her remarks against the Sikh community wherein she had labelled them as 'Khalistani Terrorists' in the wake of the Centre's announcement to repeal farm laws.
As per a report by the NDTV, Ms Ranaut has been summoned to appear before the committee headed by Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha on December 6.
The panel claimed it had received numerous complaints about allegedly derogatory remarks made by Ranaut on her Instagram account on Saturday.
"According to the complainants, the stories published by Ms. Kangana Ranaut on her Instagram Account which has a massive reach and is being followed by around 80 lakh of people worldwide, specifically illustrates the instances which hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh Community and has a tendency to disturb the peace and harmony of the society," the statement issued by the committee said.
Last week, the Bollywood actor took to Instagram to share a picture of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, saying that she "crushed Khalistanis like mosquitoes" even at the "cost of her life".
"Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today... But let's not forget one woman... The only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jooti ke neeche crush kiya tha (the only woman PM who crushed them under her shoes). No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation... she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life... Lekin desh k tukde nahi hone diye (but she did not let the nation get divided)," Ms Ranaut had posted on Instagram.
The summons document said Ms Ranaut's "blanketly labelling (Sikhs) as Khalistani terrorists... has the potential to engender disharmony as well as cause wounding humiliation to the entire Sikh community."
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have booked Ranaut for her comments on Instagram based on a complaint by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
The actor has been charged under Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings).
The complaint alleged that the actress "intentionally and deliberately" portrayed the year-long protest by farmers against three new farm laws as a "Khalistani" movement and called them "Khalistani terrorists".
The FIR was filed by Amarjeetsingh Sandhu along with leaders of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
