Darshan case: complaint against aides for threatening witnesses

Bengaluru: In a fresh update on events following Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa's murdering a man, Karnataka police took in a fresh complaint against the aides of the actor over threatening the eyewitness in the case. In the murder case, Karnataka Police have arrested the actor, his girlfriend, who is also an actor, along with 16 others, PTI reported.

Police produced Darshan and three others before the court and submitted that the names of the eyewitnesses were not made public for their safety.

Police said in their remand note to the court, "A complaint has been lodged against the aides of the accused number two (Darshan) for threatening the eyewitnesses of the case at the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station.”

“Actress Pavithra Gowda(A1), Darshan(A2), and other accused involved in the case have been ‘creating obstacles continuously' in the investigation of the case.”

In the court, police charged all the accused with trying to destroy the material evidence.

Further on murder victim Renuka Swamy’s phone, the police said, "The court is requested to grant permission to apply for Renuka Swamy's SIM card from the service provider to ‘re-access' the data in the mobile phone, which the accused had thrown in the Sumanahalli Stormwater Drain to destroy the data.”

They also told the court that all the accused contacted each other through web applications and destroyed data. Hence, they sought the permission of the court to get the accused's fresh SIM card. Police then opposed bail to the accused, warning that the actor could destroy the evidence since he is influential, rich and has a large fan base.
