Gujarat: A Dalit man was allegedly attacked by a group of individuals and had his thumb chopped off after his nephew picked up a cricket ball during a match at a school playground. The incident occurred on Sunday in Kakoshi village, Patan district, Gujarat.
As per the FIR, the accused became angry and threatened the boy who had picked up the ball while observing a cricket match at the village school playground. They also used casteist slurs with the intention of insulting and intimidating members of the Dalit community and the boy's family members. The situation was temporarily resolved when the boy's uncle, Dhiraj Parmar, objected to this. However, later that evening, a group of seven men armed with sharp weapons assaulted Dhiraj and his brother, Kirti. One of them severed Kirti's thumb and caused serious injuries.
An FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons (Section 326), criminal intimidation (Section 506), and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act).
The authorities are actively working to apprehend the accused individuals involved in the incident.
