New Delhi: India, once again is witnessing a steep surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, the health ministry reported. Around 18,819 new cases were reported only on Thursday, taking the total to 4,34,52,164 cases.
According to the data released by the Union Health Ministry, the number of active cases increased to 104,555.
There has also been an increase in the death rate. With a total of 39 reported deaths on Thursday, the total number of Covid-related deaths in the country rose to 5,25,116.
However, the national Covid 19 recovery rate is at 98.58 percent. And the active cases comprise 0.21 percent of the total infections.
Kerala had earlier re-imposed its Covid-19 restrictions following the sudden rise in the number of Covid-19 cases reported since Monday. The state has mandated masks at all public stations, workplaces, and other gatherings.
Those violating the rules of the government will be charged with a fine of Rs 500, said the police.
The health ministry has also advised people to not skip their booster doses. So far, around 197.61 crore doses of Covid vaccines were administered in the country under the nationwide Covid vaccination drive.
