Maharashtra recorded 1,881 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. This is 81% more than Monday and the highest daily rise since February 18. 1,242 cases were reported in Mumbai alone and this almost doubled from yesterday.
The state health department said one case of B.A.5 variant was also recorded. A 31-year-old woman from Pune was found positive for the B.A.5 variant after a 'whole genomic sequencing' from BJ Medical College, Pune. The patient was asymptomatic and recovered in home isolation, said the official release.
Four patients of B.A.4 sub-lineage and three cases of B.A.5 sub-lineage of the Omicron variant of coronavirus were found in the state on May 28.
Maharashtra's COVID-19 case tally rose to 78,96,114 on Tuesday. Since no new Covid-19-related death was reported, the death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,866. The state recorded 1,036 new infections on Monday and 676 of them were in the capital city.
There are 8,432 active cases in Maharashtra now. As of Tuesday, there are no active cases in Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalna, Akola, Buldhana, and Gondia districts. 878 patients have recovered since Monday evening. The total number of recovered patients in Maharashtra is 77,39,816. The state has a 98.02% recovery rate.
Since yesterday, the state conducted 35,694 tests taking the tally to 8,11,12,952.
