New Delhi: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has accused the Centre of betraying India’s youth by failing to honour assurances that led the organisation to call off its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the NEET question paper leak. The online collective warned that it could launch another Jantar Mantar-style agitation if the government fails to fulfil its promises.
CJP leaders said the government had made assurances to end the peaceful protest but had allegedly begun retreating from them after demonstrators left the streets. They maintained that any attempt to dilute, delay or disregard the commitments would amount to a betrayal of the country’s young generation.
The organisation also alleged that the government had failed to provide a list of FIRs registered against student protesters, despite repeated court demands that such cases be withdrawn. CJP co-convener Saurav Das and head of legal affairs Ratna Singh said a meeting would be held on August 24 to decide the organisation’s next course of action, urging students and supporters across the country to remain prepared.
The protest, which continued for more than a month, was called off on July 25 after CJP said the government had accepted its demands. These included maximum compensation for families of students who died by suicide in connection with the NEET controversy, withdrawal of FIRs filed by the Centre and NDA governments, and discussions on the organisation’s five-point charter for examination reforms.
CJP claimed the agitation had contributed to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and said it would not back down until all the commitments made to students were fulfilled.
