CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das sent to 5 days’ judicial custody
New Delhi: Two Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, have been remanded to five days of judicial custody after their arrest over a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where demonstrations are currently restricted.
The Delhi Police produced the duo before the Special Executive Magistrate Court at Mandir Marg on Wednesday after detaining them preventively for allegedly entering the protest area without permission on Tuesday. They have been lodged in Tihar jail.
CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde, who was arrested alongside them, was released on a bail bond of Rs 5,000. He was directed not to engage in activities that could disturb public peace for one year.
The party said its leaders had gathered at Jantar Mantar to wave the national flag and raise patriotic slogans. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the arrests, accusing the government of suppressing dissent and questioning the action against the leaders for unfurling the Tricolour.
