CJP founder claims arrest threat ahead of October 10 Delhi protest

New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has claimed that he, party spokesperson Saurav Das and co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka could be arrested before the organisation’s proposed protest in Delhi on October 10.

Dipke alleged that the three leaders had received information from multiple sources about possible action under the National Security Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act or other similar provisions.

The claim has not been independently verified. No publicly confirmed arrest order under the NSA or UAPA has been issued against the CJP leaders so far.

In a post on X, Dipke said the possibility of arrest would not force them to withdraw their campaign. He said he, Das and Ranka had been prepared to go to jail since June 6.

Dipke said the leaders were willing to face imprisonment, physical violence and even death while continuing their movement. He described the CJP’s campaign as a peaceful and non-violent struggle, invoking Mahatma Gandhi’s principles.

In another statement, he said even the threat of prolonged incarceration would not silence the organisation.

“We are ready to spend months or years in jail, if required,” Dipke said, while asserting that the campaign would continue despite what he described as attempts to intimidate the group.

The CJP is scheduled to hold a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The group announced the Delhi demonstration after holding a protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2. It has accused the Election Commission of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and alleged that the exercise has compromised electoral integrity.

The Election Commission has rejected allegations of internal differences over the SIR and said decisions concerning the revision were taken unanimously by the full Commission.

Das had earlier also claimed that CJP leaders could be arrested before the Delhi protest. He urged supporters to gather in large numbers, while Dipke asked, “How many people will you arrest?”

The CJP emerged in May 2026 following online criticism over remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant about young people and activists. What began as a satirical initiative led by Dipke later developed into a protest organisation focusing on youth, governance and electoral issues.

The group became more prominent during demonstrations linked to the NEET paper-leak controversy, including its July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar. It later expanded its campaign to demand Kumar’s resignation.

CJP leaders have also faced detention during previous protests. Last month, Ranka and several volunteers were detained by Assam Police before a planned regional meeting. Ranka later criticised the action.

The latest allegations of a possible arrest come amid the group’s expanding protest campaign. However, there is no independent confirmation that Dipke, Das or Ranka will be arrested under the NSA or UAPA before October 10.

The CJP leaders have said they will proceed with the Delhi protest and continue their campaign regardless of any action against them.
