CJP chief Abhijeet Dipke walks free after Delhi court imposes one-year peace condition
New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was released on Saturday after a Delhi court granted him conditional bail, a day after he was detained while heading to the party’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest in Connaught Place.
The Special Executive Magistrate court directed Dipke to furnish a peace bond before his release. Under the condition, he has to ensure that he does not breach public peace for one year. Delhi Police said the bail was subject to these conditions.
Dipke was picked up by police on Friday shortly after he left his residence in Jhandewalan to join the CJP’s planned rally at Central Park. He was arrested the next morning for allegedly violating a peace bond he had signed following an earlier preventive detention on October 10, according to police sources.
The party had announced a ‘Tiranga Assembly’ at Central Park at 5 p.m. on Friday. However, the New Delhi Municipal Council did not permit the event, and police said Connaught Place is not a designated protest site.
Before the proposed march, Dipke was served two notices. One, issued by the New Delhi district authorities, prohibited people from visiting Central Park as prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were in force. The other reminded him of the undertaking given after his earlier detention, under which he was required to refrain from causing a public disturbance for a year.
CJP Legal Affairs Head Ratna Singh announced Dipke’s release on X, writing: “Abhijeet Dipke released.” Earlier, she had alleged that the delay in the court hearing was deliberate and demanded the release of Dipke, Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and other detainees.
AISA president Neha Bora, who was detained near Mandi House amid tight security in central Delhi, was released shortly after her detention.
