Centre slams 2021 US report on attacks on Indian minorities

New Delhi: The Union government has rebutted and rebuffed the US report on attacks on minorities in India, saying that the report contains ill-informed comments by US officials. Reacting to the US State Department 2021 Report on International Religious Freedom, the government also alleged on Friday that it was part of vote bank politics in international al relations and was based on motivated inputs and biased views, NDTV reported.

The Union External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, said in a statement that India has a "naturally" pluralistic society, and it values freedom and human rights. In their discussions with the United States, they have consistently tabled the issues of concerns in India, which include ethnically motivated attacks, hate crimes and gun violence, he said.

According to the US report, attacks, including killings, intimidation etc., continued in the nation throughout 2021. Many acts of 'cow vigilantism' against minority communities happened in the country- which has the Hindu community as the majority- assaulting many for alleged cow slaughtering and beef trade. Also, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has made comments on the report about the violations of religious freedom in India.

NDTV reports that India always maintained that foreign nations need not comment on India's domestic affairs.
