New Delhi: The ongoing tussle between Delhi government and Centre has taken a new dimension on Wednesday over the inauguration of a university campus with Kerjiwal administration and Lieutenant Governor’s office laying claim to the ceremony.
The Delhi government on Tuesday said chief minister Kejriwal will open on June 8 the east Delhi campus of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), according to NDTV.
Countering the Delhi government, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena’s office said that Governor would inaugurate the university as had been already decided, taking the situation to the boiling point.
Delhi minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj did not mince words when he said education and higher education are state subjects and instead LG should inaugurate police stations, sports complexes if he at all wants.
Earlier on Tuesday the state education minister Atishi announced that Kejriwal would open the university on June 8.
Shortly afterwards, a note from LG’s office claimed that as was already decided LG Saxena would open the university with Kejriwal as the guest of honour and Atishi as a special guest, adding that ceremony was previously scheduled on May 23 which was later put off to June 8 at the chief minister’s request.
Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj reacted to the note saying ‘Police, land and public order come under the LG. He can inaugurate police stations, police headquarters and DDA sports complexes but education and higher education are state subjects and this is the work of elected governments,’ according to NDTV.
