Case filed against 57 individuals for offering namaz on road near graveyard in UP

A case has been registered against seven individuals and 50 unidentified people for allegedly offering namaz on a road near a graveyard in a district in Uttar Pradesh.

Hafizganj Station House Officer (SHO) Chetram Verma said that a case was filed based on a complaint lodged by Sub-Inspector Gajendra Singh.

The case has been registered under sections 505(1)(b) (offence against State or public tranquillity) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The named individuals in the case are Kalua, Narbar Khan, Sabir, Janade Ali, Mohd Umar (village pradhan), Urabbe Ali, and Mumtaz, all residents of Duavat village, reported PTI.

According to the sub-inspector, the village's pradhan, Mohd Umar, had informed the police that a burial was scheduled to take place in the graveyard on Friday morning. When the burial procession of Nakshu Khan arrived on the road near the graveyard, the accused individuals offered namaz.

The police were already present near the graveyard due to its proximity to a populated area and a religious place called 'Brahmadev Sthal.' Local residents raised objections to the offering of namaz, and they also recorded a video of the incident, which later went viral on social media. This prompted the police to take action and register the case.
