3 booked after video shows namaz inside Hanuman temple in Aurangabad

Aurangabad: Police have registered a case against three men after a video allegedly showing a man performing namaz inside a Hanuman temple in a village under Aurangabad police station circulated on social media, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly took place on May 31 at the home of Rajkumar, where labourers including Asar Mohammad and his associate Nazar Mohammad were working as masons. According to police, the workers stopped for lunch and, amid light rain, Asar Mohammad is said to have offered namaz inside the temple while Nazar Mohammad remained nearby.

The video sparked anger among villagers, prompting a police probe. Investigators said the sequence of events shown in the footage was prima facie correct. Police have alleged the act was intended to insult the religious sentiments of the Hindu community by defiling a place of worship.

Aurangabad SSO Mohammad Aslam confirmed an FIR has been filed and the matter is under investigation.
