BJP won Gujarat by shifting Mahatrashra projects to the state: Thackeray

Mumbai: Former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said the BJP won Gujarat after channeling to the state the development projects originally planned for Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' wrote an editorial on Friday accusing the BJP of "snatching" away projects meant for Maharashtra, thus returning to power despite the state facing issues like Morbi accident and grim situation during pandemic.

Saamana called PM Modi the 'gaurav-purush' of Gujarat, adding that the state has developed because of Modi.

"Many global meets have been held in Gujarat and world leaders visit Sabarmati, Ahmedabad because of PM Modi. Many big-ticket projects have been snatched from states like Maharashtra to offer to Gujarat. All these paid off in the election. Sardar Patel statue is there in Gujarat but PM Modi is Gujarat Asmita (identity of Gujarat)," the editorial as reported by Hindustan Times said.

Uddhav Thackeray stated on Thursday that the projects that are shifted from Maharashtra to Gujarat helped the BJP.

Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar said the BJP's Gujarat result, though expected, did not reflect the mood of the country.

Pawar added that the BJP's victory in the state came from shifting projects to Gujarat.
