New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on Sunday that his government's development work was changing Delhi's face and modernising the national capital, Press Trust of India reported.
PM Modi was inaugurating the main tunnel and five underpasses of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project in Delhi. Substantiating his statement, he cited many projects, including Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways, more than doubling of metro tracks in Delhi-NCR and the Delhi-Meerut highway, like steps taken by the government to address the national capital's issues.
Post the inauguration, PM claimed that the city got a beautiful infrastructure gift from his government. It will save 55 lakh litres of fuel as well as reduce the pollution, he said.
Further, he said the Centre views increasing urbanisation as an opportunity to ease peoples' living.
The new 1.6km tunnel will bypass ITO, Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg, connecting India Gate and other central Delhi areas with east Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. The tunnel is a first in the city, reports PTI.
According to PM, time is money, and when the government announces Rs 100 for people, it becomes a headline, but the same government saving Rs 200, would never get talked about much.
PM Modi also lauded the artwork adorning the tunnel and underpasses and suggested that they should be closed for traffic for a few hours on Sundays so that people can walk and take a look at the art.
Later, he praised the artworks on tunnel walls and added that the tunnels should be closed for a few hours on Sundays so that the public could take a look.
The Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project has been built at the cost of more than ₹ 920 crores and is entirely funded by the central government.
