Kishanganj: A biryani feast meant for supporters of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate Tausif Alam, contesting the Bahadurganj Assembly seat in Kishanganj district, descended into chaos on Friday, with several people scrambling for plates of the rice dish.

The pandemonium occurred during Alam’s nomination filing, and videos of the crowd jostling for biryani have gone viral on social media. Some users criticised the spectacle, with one commenting that politicians should focus on improving Bihar rather than staging such events, while another said incidents like these give outsiders a negative impression of the state.

Observers noted that the episode reflects the high emotions and intense competition marking the start of the Bihar Assembly elections campaign. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav described the poll season as “the beginning of a festival of change” when the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates.

The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases, on November 6 and November 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.
